Summoning Failed...

I need some advice with summoning. I recently bought the PTD Edition on steam, and can't seem to summon anyone, invade, or get invaded. I've seen fog gates pop up while running around in human form indicating that I'm getting invaded but after a minute or so they disappear and nothing happens.

Also while trying to summon for bosses (no I don't need the help, but I like to summon people that are trying to farm souls/sunlight medals). I've been spamming summons for 20 minutes in front of the O&S fog gate and every one has failed.

Is there a setting in GFWL or on Steam that will help with connecting to other players online?

And no, it's not because "lol ur internetz are bad"
