Dualing Fighter/Cleric more popular than Fighter/Druid?

I'm trying to get my head around this. It seems like that with the BG1's experience limit of 161k you would either get a fighter6/cleric8 or fighter6/druid10.

With the latter, you get access to 4 level 5 priest spells (considering 3 wiz tomes and ring of holiness) where Cleric gets access to none. And the fighter/druid even has higher base thaco, as it's using the druid10 over fighter6..

Am I missing something? Or is it only because people like to consider playing through BG2 with the same protagonist..?
