Looking for cheap automobile advice.

Hello fellow Baltimorons

I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to get my first car for nearly three four years. Saved up $ at first then my son was born and ever since, when l get close it goes toward bills. Honestly I just want something that can get my son and I from point a-b and expand my job hunt radius. I know there are auto auctions out near Elkridge and in Parkville but I've never been to one...anyone have any experience?
