Covering bases with a rational mind
From age 20 to 31 I was an atheist. Subscribed and posted to r/atheism off and on for a few years, but the subject grew old. I knew there was no god, why put any effort into something so obvious. As an atheist I knew nothing in my life that would point to there being a higher power. Not the smallest shred of personal evidence. Everything is just as it appears. Of course there is no god.
One thing that may have made me different from other non-believers is I would say to myself, or whomever was listening in 'I don't believe in god, or anything spiritual. If there is a god, I cannot be blamed by him for not believing as I have absolutely no reason to believe. Not a shred of evidence has ever been had by myself personally. If there is a god, make it known to me, otherwise I will continue to think in a rational way.' I said this to my self a few times in my life, mostly to cover my bases. But I was genuine when saying it, and meant every word.
I would hope that you who are reading this say something like this to yourself also. Nothing lost, and maybe you will be surprised some day when Divinity answers back. Just keep open minded like you already are. Being an atheist leaves a person in a much better position. Dogma free.
- On a side note. I do not affiliate with any religion or attend any religious service, nor do I see that happening in the future.
