AskReddit gets into a discussion about corporeal punishment and it devolves into 'My anecdotal evidence is more valid than yours!'

Forgive me if it is low effort, I have been a lurker for a while but never posted/commented. For the most part I have tried to co-exist within the Hivemind but I've found that... I normally don't have anything to say, and when I do it would get drowned out anyway. At first I liked reddit because it seemed different. It turns out it's absolutely the same thing everyday, just with different pictures(occasionally).

Today I ran into the last straw in AskReddit. It was a question to those who were spanked and/or otherwise physically punished as a child. I thought I would take a look, as I was emotionally stunted growing up by my own mother's physical punishments. I lost a lot of confidence in myself, lashed out aggressively where I shouldn't, and overall ended up being a fly on the wall. I didn't like to speak up.

The top comment is this. I thought it looked pretty reasonable, sitting at 756 points.

And then I go down more and then... What? 1641 points? 2167? And so on.

The reason I managed to find was so far down the line I was almost saddened by it. All the reasonable ones had barely any points, and some would say their children only turned out good because they got "easy kids"...

There were also quite a few cases of abuse going on in there, and sympathy for it at least.

I'm honestly not sure what to say. I've been lurking for a long time, and a user for even less of a time. Lately I've been reading r/circlebroke and now I see what I had been so uncomfortable with. Thanks for taking time to listen.
