Quick question about junk items.

Is there's other use for them except selling. It seems like some items I gathered are quite useful like a gemstone, or a smart phone, or cards. After Fallout NV I'm afraid to sell stuff because if I do there's going to be quest to get that item right after you sell it.

So, complete junk or somehow valuable items?
