Nicaragua: USA's Vietnam before Vietnam
Nicaragua during the 1920s and early 1930s held many similar characteristics to the later Vietnam war. Both involved battling Guerillas in which they ultimately couldn't succeed against. Nicaragua along with Vietnam had lots of media exposure during both respected time periods as newspaper and radio reports talked about the rising casualties among US marines returning from Nicaragua. Instead of Ho Chi Minh, it was the small statured yet determined rebel known as Sandino, who the US failed to capture in the end despite using advanced weapons for the time period. This included the usage of airplanes which would swoop down against suspected rebels causing devastation. I suppose the question is ultimately this, did the US military learn any lesson from the Nicaraguan campaign during their time in Vietnam?
