Minecraft not installing/downloading updates? PLEASE help me with this.

I have tried erasing the bin folder or the .jar, and I have redownloaded minecraft, but it still doesn't update. I've even download the 1.4.5 jar file and put it in the bin file, but the update bar still gets stuck. I even have 32 bit and 64 bit versions of java 6 and java 7. when I tried to play minecraft in browser on minecraft.net it said this: fatal error occurred: (4) address family not supported by protocol family. I tried turning off my antivirus software (AVG) and it still didn't work, and I allowed java through my firewall. Any idea what I can do? I think I've tried everything.

EDIT: confused antivirus with spyware.
