Just Cause before Just Cause 2?

Is there any compelling reason to play the original before Just Cause 2? I've heard rave reviews and seen all the crazy screencaps of JC2, but not much about JC1... and about half an hour in, I see why. I usually try to play series in order, but is that required here?
