I have a good pc (£800-£900) and yet everything is quite slow ?

I have a 6870 graphics card, 4gb ram, 1tb hard drive, windows 7 and I have had my computer for less than a year. Yet some of the games I try to load do take some time to load compared to when I first got it. Is there anything I can do to speed it up a game??
