Looking at the sun.

So I was reading up on looking at the sun and that you need solar filters etc but it got me thinking, couldnt you layer up the lenses of 3d cinema glasses and maybe some stained glass paper stuff and look at it? It would pretty much kill of the glare but don't know how safe it would be.
