One MAJOR thing makes Halo 4 play completely differently than its predecessors.
I'm talking about how easily enemies names appear on your screen.
As someone who's been playing Halo for the past 10 years, I was trying to figure out to myself, why does Halo 4 play so differently to me? And I think this is why. People ALWAYS know EXACTLY where you are. There is no trying to hide in this game, short of being behind a box in a hallway where theres no chance you're on someone else's screen. If an enemy is on your screen even the littlest bit, and you look even remotely near them for any length of time, then the game puts a giant target on their head.
I don't know if this was done intentionally in order to make sure armor type and color don't affect gameplay. Or to make it so snipers (or anyone) can't camp, but I think it has more far reaching effects. Everyone knows exactly where they're being shot from now, instantly. Even if it's not you being shot, as soon as you hear shots you can turn and instantly see the people in the battle taking place. In my opinion this greatly changes the dynamic of the game, because players don't have to make an effort to seek out targets, the targets pop out to them. Any time I get engaged in a duel, I now have to fully expect other enemies to start shooting at me within a second or two, because no matter how remote they are, if I pop into their view for just a second it'll tell them where I am. There are many less "isolated" battles, which means that it's harder to get your shield back up before another enemy starts shooting you.
I have fond memories of jumping my way into the trees near the bottom of Highground in Halo 3, and BRing people without them figuring out where I was. That kind of thing would NEVER happen in Halo 4, simply because if that tree was within someone's field of view, the game would pop up a bright gamertag above my head and I would be killed instantly.
What're your thoughts?
