Best book or resource to learn Windows Server from scratch?
Hello, Feel free to downvote if this is not the place to ask this.
A friendo of mine, who has a small business with around 10 computers , recently asked me to setup a Windows server environment for him. He basically wants me to setup a very basic Windows network environment , with a small server for everyone to log in and keep their files in and a backup solution with a NAS.
I told him that I didn't really know much about Microsoft, Active Directory, etc. I have intermediate knowledge in Linux networks, but no experience as a sysadmin. He insisted even after I told him I would probably be learning as I went along. I figured this might be a good learning experience and I can definitely use the money.
So, basically my question is: where are all the complete beginners guides to Microsoft Windows Servers? All I can seem to find is specialized literature concerning new features in each Server release (2003,2008,2012). I need the "For Dummies" versions that will explain how Windows deals with users, Active Directory, logging, etc. (The For Dummies books on Amazon have bad ratings)
I have access to a couple of Windows 2012 licenses and I figured I could use one for this project.
Thanks, and feel free to downvote if this is not the place to ask this.
EDIT: For future reference I just found this website that has lots of videos on Windows, Linux and general networking: http://www.networkingprogramming.com/1024x768/index.html
Found it via r/homelab , which I didn't know existed!
