Suffering from crashes when playing Far Cry 3 on PC.

I'm running the game on a pretty good rig, I've made sure all my drivers are up-to-date and applied the game patch, but the game will randomly crash to desk top and bring up the 'stopped responding' box. This usually happens within a hour, with a range from 5 minutes+.

I'm scratching my head here. It runs smoothly (while it's running) and I've tried both direct x options, as well as fiddling with the graphics. As far as I'm aware my card is well within its temperature boundaries, and I haven't had problems running any other games. Anybody who can shed any light on this would be appreciated!

Just as a FYI, I originally posted this over at r/farcry, but thought I'd potentially get more luck here. I have already tried a clean install of both the game and my graphics card drivers. I launch Far Cry 3 via Ubisoft's uplay platform, and I have tried putting this into offline mode, as well as disabling the interface, but no dice.
