Teaching Biblical literacy to atheist children: book suggestions?
I know variations on this question come up often but I have a more specific need: I am looking for books that will teach non-Christian kids to be Biblically literate. For example, I'd love to find something like "Ten Bible Stories All Atheist Kids Should Know So They Don't Feel Stupid When Their Friends Make a Reference to Noah."
We are open about our atheism and are raising our kids to be rational freethinkers. But we also feel they need to be culturally literate, which means knowing Bible stories as much as recognizing Tom Sawyer. I was recently in a Target and asked my 8 year old who the characters in a nativity creche were; after a moment's thought she ventured "Noah?" I could just get them a children's Bible but am hoping there's something shorter and more engaging that will bring them up to speed while also maintaining a critical perspective.
Any suggestions?
