Icelander moving to Sydney - tips on living there etc..?
Halló there guys! Finally after 6 years of dreaming, I decided to follow my ambitions and move to the city I´ve always wanted to live and study in for a few years - Sydney.
I´m a 27 year old guy from Iceland, work as an ER nurse (not the stereotypical male-nurse, but the hunting, hiking (and pillaging and plundering) viking one addicted to saving lives and dealing with emergency situations) and i just got into the university of Sydney to do my master´s in emergency there, starting in march (arriving in late february).
I know you have that great FAQ on here and i´ve been all over those links and reading everything about those things, but I wanted to see if there´s anyone in here who can give me tips on some good apartments (house sharing), social events (I went to an awesome reddit social event in London and loved it) or stuff to do for an Icelander who doesn´t (yet) know anyone in Sydney. I´ve been all over gumtree but mostly I find something at ridiculous prices or rooms that are too crowded for my taste. Since my last (and only) meeting with redditors showed me that there´s hope for the internet I´m wondering if I can find interesting people here who could point me out a nice place to rent, interesting social/sporting activities or even someone to share some ale with when I get there!
Also: -Is it difficult for a foreigner to get a hunting/gun license there in case if i want to go out for some fresh game at some point in the next year? -let´s say that I don´t get my RN license there in time, is it difficult to get a job at a bar or something like that?
Thanks in advance!
