As Atheists, do you believe the Catholic Church has had a positive or negative effect on humanity?
In your eyes, does society receive a positive net gain from the effects of the Catholic Church? It's certainly not flawless, but the Church donates more to charity than any other group or people. It might not be right in its theories, but what it does seems to be right. It has done a great deal to promote unity and acceptance, even if more radical sects have deviated from this teaching.
This question is actually one that was posed to me by a friend in a little argument we're having. Personally, I ultimately disagree- but I want to see how others treat the question. Please try to shed as much light on to how you arrived at your answer as possible.
