How not to get robbed in San Francisco

1. Be aware of your surroundings. This involves being aware of the people who make-up your surroundings.

2. Don't flash money. Money means expensive electronic gadgets, cash, anything of obvious value.

3. Appear to have a clue. This means not wandering in a drunken stupor or being so caught-up in your ipod/etc that you fail to notice trouble brewing.

4. Don't give attitude or fail to respect the people around you. A suburban sense of entitlement does not go over well with city folks and check it out - San Fran is the city. If someone challenges you and you respond flippantly don't be surprised if they test you. Most likely that person has more experience than you in these matters. Respect is complicated - one way to show respect is to know where you are. Every street in town is not your personal property to march down like you own it. When in Rome behave accordingly and you will have no problems.

I post this not to be a dick-head or to insult you, I post this to prevent you from getting robbed! San Francisco is the "sucka-free city" and the way that stays real is by letting "suckas" know the score. Don't be a sucka.
