Is the current pub/comp "meta" different in WC3 DotA from the top picks in Dota 2?

I was wondering if the current meta/trend or whatever you call the most popular heroes and strategies in WC3 DotA is different from the actual trends in Dota 2, on both pub and competitive play.

Are there unreleased heroes who are widely picked? Do the WC3 mechanics buff/nerf some heroes released in both DotA and Dota 2? Or are there no differences at all?
