Undergraduate research in memristors or fluxgate sensors

Recently I talked with a professor about doing research with him, and he said that he would mentor me if I came up with a topic. I've been doing a little bit of reading in in the two subject areas he suggested (memristors or fluxgate sensors) and am having trouble coming up with anything.

I'd like a project with a fairly small scope (~1 semester's work) that would be reasonable for a second year undergrad to do.

Anyone care to nudge me in the right direction, or flat out suggest topics? Thanks in advance!
