Has anyone here managed to strengthen their emotional control?

I'm sure some of you can relate. I (f) have the hardest time controlling my emotions. It's as if I feel every little thing in an over-the-top way. The best way to explain it is that every strong emotion turns into tears. If I'm angry, I cry. If I'm really happy, I cry. I have to avoid any kind of confrontation, even if I know I have a valid point and I ought to stand up for myself because I will just weep through the conversation. If I meet a new friend and I really like him/her, I'm convinced I love them and am sometimes over-generous, which is weird. It'a not a sex thing. I'm single and don't have sex, it's just a platonic love thing. It eventually fades, but at first it's so irrational.

I also give up on ideas or hobbies really easily because my enthusiasm starts out so white-hot strong that I inevitably will have a downswing and lose interest entirely in the thing I liked.

Not sure if this makes sense, because it's hard to describe. It's as if there's no middle ground in my emotions.

Has anyone here had success overcoming this? I don't want to make any assumptions about who might relate, but it would be nice to hear from a woman who had mastered this.

Meditation? Is that the only way to go?

tl;dr: I have no control over my emotions. Looking to hear from people who have dealt with this using meditation or other.
