Does any one know this rhyme?

It's from a book I had as a child, I've ask my mum and she can't find it ah her house. As far as I can remember it's written by a man called Colin McNaughton and its from a book called Santa Claus is superman.

i can only remember the first verse.

I left it late to buy a tree They only had one left They wanted 47 pounds I said that's down right theft...........

after that i don't know.
