Something needs to be done about the cross-server playing... (details inside)
I just lost a game which in my mind i wouldn't have if we didn't have said issue at present. I'm only going on this short rant because this is happening more and more frequently.
Basically, we had a player from eastern Russia play on the EU west server on a WiFi that he leeched from his neighbors, as it turned out, the poor guy had to play our game with a ping that ranged from 2000-5000ms; Naturally this is going to have a profound affect his game play and therefore a negative effect of the game.
I've seen some recent resent for Russian player playing on anything but the Russian servers. But i'm not saying we should force players to play on a server that is nearby, that would ruin the possibility for us to play with friends in other regions. But maybe I as a player could have the option to select that I would like to play with players within my region, or that I would like to discard games form the matchmaking pool that have players with more than 500ms latency.
What are your thoughts of this and of possible solutions?
