How do you keep your kitchen towels from getting gross?

My kitchen towels always look gross. Does everyone else have this problem, or am I missing some basic cooking 101 techniques? Am I supposed to get heavily printed towels to hide food stains, or get white towels and bleach them, or not actually use them while cooking, or replace them all the time, or what? I feel like I must be missing something.
