Far Cry 3 question

Guys, I downloaded Far Cry 3 through steam yesterday with the notion that it would be ready to play until December 4th. However, I am seeing a ton of Far Cry 3 posts that seem to be firsthand gameplay, was there an earlier release elsewhere? (I am in the US) or are they just privileged? Thanks in advance!
