Guitar issues with tapping and quick note hitting.

I have been having a problem with my Epiphone Les Paul 100. Whenever I tap a note you can kinda hear the note bellow it if there is a large space. I know this is kinda hard to explain, so here's an example. Let's say I tap on the 12 fret on the high e string. When I tap there i can hear the e, but i can also hear the open string's sound bellow it. I am tapping fairly hard and i was wondering if this could be a fret problem or something. Any help would be appreciated.
