[Meta]The Reddit hivemind, r/Games, Platform wars, and Call of Duty

I have noticed a recent trend on this website that is beginning to bother me. Basically this idea that any "popular" reddit opinion is wrong and should be rejected with extreme hostility. I'm posting it on this board because I frequent it, one of the main examples is occurring on this board, and according to the side panel "The goal of r/Games is to provide a place for informative and interesting gaming content and discussions.".

Now, why is Call of Duty in the title?

Any posts that implies or outright says Call of Duty is bad on this board will unleash a downvote brigade.

Case in point link

Yes he still has positive karma but that is besides the point. The point is that he has contributed to the thread and for some reason, his post and every post in his thread that critiques Call of Duty has been downvoted. Effectively hiding his opinion from everyone unless they read through more than the first section.

This is only one example however of a trend that I have noticed. For some reason, discussing why Call of Duty is bad is not allowed on this sub-reddit. Same for discussing why pc or console is better. (Saying "PC master race" or "PC is stupid, I have friends" doesn't count as discussion)

Now I am going to try to explain why people get so defensive over a game or platform. They are expensive or they enjoy them. When people pay for expensive things that turn out to be worse (not bad) than something else, they get defensive because it is personal. Same with enjoying a game that other people don't like.

Don't get defensive. state your opinion, and discuss it or leave. If someone states something that contributes to the discussion and you agree, upvote it. If someone states something that contributes to the discussion but you disagree, do nothing and respond with why you disagree. If somebody says something that doesn't contribute to the discussion, downvote it. If someone says or posts something outright against the purpose and spirit of the board (such as posting a picture of your anus or racism), downvote it and report it.

That's it.
