Revenge or get even??

Fellow Ents, it has been brought to my attention from a long lost friend that my ex had stolen $7000 worth of fine trees from said friend. What would you do in this situation? Revenge or get even, please keep in mind the ex has nothing, no car, no money, ex now lives with parents. Help!!!
