First live game = success!
I've played with friends growing up but never really serious. Well my roommate got into poker recently and has been doing well, and he got me interested. We've been working on stuff together, reading up, and played some small home games here and there.
Well last night at the casino (live about 10 mins from some pretty nice ones) I got tired of losing my money on craps and said screw it I'm ready to start playing poker. My buddy was surprised because I've been hesitant to go, but I couldn't take it anymore. Headed to the 1/3 NL. I was overwhelmed at first, because the others' stacks were a lot larger than mine, and they were really aggressive. But I took a few blows here and there and people started dropping like flies going all in. I was kind of shocked but not necessarily unhappy, because despite losing that night, they seemed to be pretty good. I was playing ok at best. Getting in cheap when I could, being pretty selective, just trying to soak up the game. Next thing you know I'm all in with on a pair of 7s and QJ on the board (don't ask but it was a good play I swear). I win it! First pot felt so good. Still low stack though :/ Well I don't know if the win helped or I just started getting comfortable but next thing I know me and my buddy are eating our comped meal both with about 400% more than what we came with. My game needs a lot of work, but it was a very humbling and satisfying first experience in the poker world.
Just wanted to share my experience and chronicle a great night that hopefully leads to more success. Good luck to everybody!
