Thumbs spasms

I have been playing bass for 6, almost 7, years and have just recently (within the last month or so) developed the occasional spasm in my left (fretting hand) thumb. I'm curious as to whether or not it might be bass related and if anyone has ever this happen to them. Any thoughts?
