Last week I asked my boss when I was getting a full-sized desk, while unbeknownst to me, she was supervising an employee cleaning out their desk. When have you unintentionally done something that made you feel/look like an inconsiderate dick?

I am relatively new at this company and I use a makeshift desk put between an office and a hallway. My supervisor is very busy and there never seems to be an opportune moment to ask her about trivial things. So, she finally stopped near my desk for a moment and I used to opportunity to ask about whether I would be getting a full sized desk. Turns out, she was supervising an employee cleaning out their desk and escorting them out. The timing of my statement made me look and feel like an inconsiderate dick looking to call dibs on the newly fired employee's desk. All while in the presence of the fired employee.
