Boyfriend taken in for DUI...Now what? (Beware, possible ranting)

Hi friends,

This probably isn't the best place for this but I needed to put my thoughts down before I make myself crazy...

A little background:Last night my best friend, boyfriend and I went out for a couple of drinks. It was the usual at a local hangout we frequent and everything was going according to schedule. At around 1 A.M. we decide we're ready to head home as I was making my best effort to undress him in the bar (I get handsy when I start to drink...a habit I'm trying desperately to break). Now, my boyfriend handles his liquor very well and we're both heavy drinkers. Unfortunately, he enjoys driving fast, something I have explicitly told him makes me feel uncomfortable, and that is initially what caused us to get pulled over.

If the first thing the officer says to you is, "What is your problem?!" You should probably slow down. In any event, he gets taken in (it was very weird seeing him get cuffed) the car gets towed and we wait around for a friend to come and get us.

At this point I'm very calm and rational because a. I didn't want him to see me completely freaking out because he has enough to deal with and is probably having his own panic attack and b. it didn't quite register with me that this was actually happening.

Once we make it home I get a call from him saying that everything was alright and that he would call me today (Sunday) to pick him up since they put him in the holding area to sober him up.

NOW: I still haven't heard anything from him and my calm demeanor is slowly giving way to very irrational thoughts along the line of, "What if they keep him there forever?!" "What if he doesn't want to talk to me because he somehow is blaming the whole incident on me?!" and the most foolish, "What if he's upset that I was getting handsy with him under the table and now won't ever call me?!"

This impossible waiting is taking a toll on me and I've been obsessively checking my phone every other minute to make sure I haven't missed his call. I don't know what to expect and what's worse is that I don't know what the repercussions for him will be. And despite that I keep telling myself this is NOT my fault, I somehow feel responsible this happened as if I should have been able to predict his dumb behavior and moved the heavens to not have this happen.

This is a lot longer than I was expecting, so please forgive me, I just needed to get this off my chest and I know that TwoX is such a wonderful community and I feel so comfortable sharing with all of you.

So, have any of you had to deal with a DUI or know someone that did/does? I have no idea what to expect -despite having looked up standard- procedure in cases such as his.

THANKS, YOU ARE ALL WONDERFUL AND I'M SORRY THIS IS SO LONG!!

Tl;dr: Boyfriend got pulled over for speeding while under the influence. Haven't heard from him. Slowly losing my mind.
