I want to love halo 4...

I just can't. It might just be me but i really dont get along with it. Ive always been one for playing Halo alone, no team, just me, in Halo 3 and reach i often carried teams to victory, i felt a sense of accomplishment. But in 4, it just doesn't go the same. There are so many things which it could be, so here they are...

  1. Respawning. The respawning in Halo 4 is often instant, this is awesome in CoD but in previous Halo games theres been almost a sense of worth in living. It was like each life had a mission and when you died you had to sit there and consider why you died and what went wrong. Now im sure gaming may have changed but is there any need for this to have changed? there are so many positives to it such as: It allowed the person who killed you a chance to move on, yes you would know the area the person was at but they could have moved anywhere, you needed to be cunning to work out how to flank them. As it is now, i often kill someone, go around the corner to reload and BOOM, the same person right there killed me before i could even reload after killing it!.

  2. SPRINTING. I'm going to say this now, i really did enjoy Halo reach, it kept Halos core gameplay while adding to it in interesting ways. But sprinting has changed the pace of the game drastically, it was ok in Halo reach because it was a choice "do i chose sprint or another ability" but now everyone has sprinting at all times. It has drastically altered the core gameplay. Halo 3 had a much slower pace but it was carried with the action, each kill felt balanced, it felt deserved when you died (a lot more then it does now) but now everything is so fast and everyone so fast it doesn't balance and instead people re-spawn, and run straight back to where they were before.

  3. Connection. Not network, but people. Before it was a few people in a match duking it out and being in a game would feel like a commitment. I felt like my team were dependent on my success, now it just feels like the actual outcome of the match is irrelevant to the actual gameplay. This one might just be in my head, hell they all might but i cant help but feeling that there isnt that connection, no striving to kill that one person who always has the sword and keeps killing you, it just feels all random. Correct me if im wrong but i beleive the games arent locked anymore, people can just come and go as they want, in a much more CoD like mannor.

  4. Weapon spawns, i miss the rush to get to certain places and reach certain weapons. The need to protect that area and hold it because a rocket launcher might appear. But now, its just Match begins, run to ordinance, chaos. And that's part of it, it feels all chaotic, i know war is chaotic, but a lot of the time everything is far to random. The set weapons and limitations on the weapons previously separated haos core gameplay with that of CoD, which brings us onto number 5.

  5. Loudouts. I was actually quite excited for loadouts. I thought it would be an interesting add, yes its a staple of CoD but maybe it will be fun. Instead it just imbalances the game further. Before there was only a limited amount of Plasma Pistols, but now? EVERYWHERE. Every corner someone is charging one, every wraith gets hit over and over, a lot of the time by own team mates. In other Halo games everyone has started equal, begging each game on an equal footing, the success of a team depended on skill, knowing when to pick a fight and when not, with load outs its all entirely random. They could hold any weapon, with any perk, with any Armour ability. Its all random. It is so hard to judge a fight.

Now individualy these CoDerisms dont ruin the game for me but combined they defiantly do take away its edge. Its strange, i enjoy Halo, I enjoy CoD, but i enjoy them separately. I play Halo for a change of pace, because its different, because each match has more weight and because of how unique it was. Now Halo 4 isn't entirely bad, for example, im pleased that all the vehicles function the same. But overall it just doesn't feel like Halo, for me the core gameplay is just too different. Now i do say this as a rather casual gamer. I've never had the best streaks, or ratios or whatever and Im casual in that i play a wide variety of games and i play games for fun. Now i know what your thinking "we all play games for fun" but do we? a lot of people play games to fill time, or to fill some competitive void. I realised something the other day, im playing Halo 4, but rarely enjoying it. I loved the campaign. But i don't think ill be staying in Halo 4 for much longer. Now you might disagree and that's absolutely fine, in fact i welcome it. But understand that this is my opinion, opinions do change over time and its how i feel about the game right now. For me it just doesn't do it.
