Why does Collatz conjecture follow Benford's Law?

I am doing some work on benford's for a school project, I read about collatz conjecture on here. The values the algorithm generates until reaching 1 follows benford's law (if you chose a number with a lot of iterations).

I don't know how to reconcile it though. I would appreciate any ideas or any pointing in a direction.
