I took a chance at buying some newt eggs online, at first I thought it may be scam and I'll recieve unfertilized eggs but luckily that did not happen.
I recieved 7 eggs in total, watching them develop over time was amazing, I was trilled when all 7 hatched and seemed healthy.

Unfortunatly over the first month 3 did not survive. They were all kept in the same container fed the same food ect but 3 of the 7 just refused to grow as much as the other 4 and eventually died. I can only assume they just wouldn't eat for some reason.

The 4 I was left with have continued to grow and I am very looking forward to them walking out of the water and starting the next stage of their lives on land!

What do you feed them?

I have Alpine newt larvae and they've been cooking about for 4 weeks now. Some die, many haven't. I feed them frozen daphnia and live moana (so?)

And I guess they're eating cause they are surviving and growing. But these are my first ever larvae and I wanna do better if I can.

These are the first I've ever had. They have exclusively eaten brine shrimp so far. When they were tiny and no limbs I'd keep them all in a small container with 100's of brine shrimp for 3 hours.
I figured if their was enough then even if they miss the shrimp they try and hunt by opening their mouth they will eat something.

When they got both sets of limbs I switched it to putting brine shrimp in their bigger tank overnight so they can hunt and then I clean out all the dead uneaten ones in the morning.

Where did you get live brine shrimp? I have my alpines in a bare 8 gallon with a moss ball, java moss, and a cutting of a pothos plant. I buy moana once or twice a week and give frozen daphnia in between. And the larvae are doing well. But my LFS doesn't have anything smaller for food.

And wouldn't you know it? A found more eggs in my main tank just minutes ago.

If you want some, let me know, since you've done this before!

I bought 20g of brine shrimp eggs from ebay!

You can buy brine shrimp hatcherys but I put an aquarium heater in a food storage box filled 3/4 with water set to 27c Then I mostly fill a plastic beer cup with tap water and add some table salt then add in some brine shrimp eggs depending on how many shrimp you want to hatch at once.

That cup goes in the water thats now being heated so also ends up heated, I then just insert some airline connected to a small usb air pump so it bubbles and keeps the eggs stiring around.

Lastly you need to keep a light on the eggs 24/7 so I use an old usb desk lamp I had. Majority of the shrimp hatch for me in 20-24 hours so I feed with them, then clean out the cup and start a new batch for feeding next day.

They look exactly like axolotls. I have two and also always watch the process until they hatch, the parents unfortunately eat them when they jet through the tank.

Oh no! I guess if you want the babies to survive you may have to seperate them from the parents until they are bigger. I think axolotls have bad eye sight? im not sure so they probably try and eat anything that moves and fits in their mouth.

Yes you’re right, they eat everything that moves. I could separate them but i am happy with the two adults and they lay hundreds of eggs every 4 to 6 weeks.
