Mountain House 3-Day Emergency Food Supply Review

Stocked up on several during this deal and decided to open one and try the meals. This box comes with (1) Biscuits & Gravy, (2) Granola with Milk & Blueberries, (2) Chicken Fried Rice, (2) Chicken & Dumplings, and (2) Beef Stroganoff with Noodles.
Last night was the beef stroganoff with noodles. You boil 1 & 2/3rd cups of water, pour into open bag with moisture packet removed and zip seal it closed for 5 minutes. Open, stir and reseal for an additional 4 minutes and then serve/eat. The zip seal on the bag is large and easy to open/close.
Following the directions exactly resulted in serving bowl full of the entree. Easily enough for 2 people, maybe 4 if you are really conserving.
The noodles and sauce were a 2/5 compared to real meals but for a dried meal it tasted just fine. The "beef" squares were still hard and chewy, like a piece of gristle. I put half of the serving back in the bag to for an additional 9 minutes and then tried that portion. The beef squares were much softer and easy to eat. If I were to make again, I would leave the pouch closed an additional 10 minutes after opening and stirring.
Tried the chicken and dumplings today. Easy to review!
I used the extended in pouch time as described in the stroganoff review.
It looks and tastes EXACTLY like the pot pie filling from the Marie Calendar frozen pot pie.
Tried both the chicken fried rice and the biscuits and gravy over the weekend.
Chicken fried rice - Just no! A bag of mush and under cooked rice (even doing the extended bag time) like substance that had an overwhelming chemical/plastic taste & smell to it. Use these packets to feed the pigs hopefully you have on hand or maybe to trade with someone you will NEVER see again.
The biscuits and gravy turned out well. About the same taste and texture you would expect out of a work/school/commercial cafeteria. The meat chunks still had some chewiness to them but overall I would not hesitate to pop one of these open on a hiking or SHTF situation.
Edit - Just tried the granola last night. Very good stuff and like it has been said, VERY generous with the blueberries.
I ate about half so I put the rest of the bag in the refrigerator and ate this morning before work. That chilled granola pack with a cup of joe was fantastic way to start the day!
