L plates - Charlestown

My kid just got their Ls and wondering if there is any particularly good places to hit the road around Charlestown closer than Steel River Industrial Estate hopefully.

Little industrial area in Gateshead was my first learning spot. Near Josie Coffee off Bullsgarden Rd, though it’s super tiny. Good for the complete beginner.

Super wide too, once you've got them to drift the corner from the plumbing place through to the cafe on Skyline way you'll know they're ready for the big leagues.

There’s instructors there most weekends too, or when it’s just rained.

The back roads of Swansea are good, may still be a bit more of a drive than you’d prefer!

Second this.

Plenty of potholes, narrow sections with big ol skool drainage ditches, buses doing laps and chicanes through the intersections that don’t line up properly, crazy pensioners in landcruisers / patrols / rams towing 40ft caravans and boats, pedestrians walking feral rescue dogs, cycling troops doing the lake lap and during school holidays chockablock with western Sydney cherubs…

Certified paradise for L platers!

I did a few lessons out there back in the day and it made me the fine driver I am today hahaha

the industrial estates in redhead, bennetts green etc. are ok but the backrouds of suburbs with wide streets are probably the best, swansea is alright.

You could try Cardiff industrial estate when they're just starting out: https://goo.gl/maps/MJairNvKczCKcnTq5

If you're happy to drive that far, there's a massive slab of concrete near the soccer grounds in Rathmines that's great for learning basics, the roads around it are usually quiet too so it's an easy transition to learning some basic road skills
