Guide to Filtering Content on /r/starcraft
###The official filtering guide is now [at this location in the r/starcraft wiki](/r/starcraft/w/filtering_guide). This version will no longer be updated.
There are three ways to filter content to one's liking on r/starcraft.
METHOD 1: Modes
Modes (found at the top of the subreddit under the "Filters" heading) allow one to view only certain types of content. For example, use Spoilerless mode to view r/starcraft with all [Spoiler] submissions removed. Modes do not require the usage of RES.
The current modes are as follows:
| Mode | Effect |
|---|---|
| Normal | Displays all content |
| Spoilerless | Displays all content except [Spoiler] |
| Fluffless | Displays all content except [Fluff] |
| Press | Displays [News], [Event], and [Interview] content |
| Video | Displays [VoD], [Show], and [Stream] content |
| Depth | Displays [Discussion], [Suggestion], [Question], and [Article] content |
| News | Displays only [News] content |
| Event | Displays only [Event] content |
| Discussion | Displays only [Discussion] content |
| Stream | Displays only [Stream] content |
| Result | Displays only [Spoiler] content |
| Question | Displays only [Question] content |
| Fluff | Displays only [Fluff] content |
| No Spoilers/Fluff | Displays all content except [Spoiler] and [Fluff] |
| No Flair | Hides all user flair images |
Note: This method only takes the first tag applied to a post into account. If a post has multiple tags only method 2 will filter based on tags beyond the first. We always apply [Spoiler] tags first.
Note: For best results, go to your preferences and set "display 100 links at once" under "link options."
METHOD 2: RES
If the above modes do not sufficiently filter content to your liking, then use RES 4.1.3 and beyond (Firefox | Opera | Chrome), to filter submissions by link flair. If you have trouble installing or using RES, then make sure that your browser is up-to-date and add-ons are not interfering. If you use RES and find it helpful, then please consider donating. u/honestbleeps would probably appreciate it.
To fully filter spoilers using RES it is recommended that you filter both the [Spoiler] tag and the (To be tagged...) tag which is automatically applied to new posts before moderators tag them.
METHOD 3: u/adremeaux's r/starcraft filtering script
u/adremeaux wrote a Greasemonkey script that can be used to filter out tags of your choice and put spoiler bars over [Spoiler] posts. After installing the script customize behavior by going to Greasemonkey User Scripts Commands and choosing any of the 3 options.
The current link flair tags are as follows (links go to today's top posts for each tag):
| Tag | Application |
|---|---|
[Spoiler] | Any submission with a spoiler |
[Shoutout] | "Happy birthday" and "appreciation" submissions |
[Art] | Drawings, paintings, photographs, crafts, et cetera |
[Fluff] | Quick, less-serious submissions and personalities or organizations doing non-StarCraft activities |
[Map] | Maps for standard melee games, and anything about their design |
[Modding] | Custom games and anything else done in the editor |
[Show] | StarCraft shows (State of the Game, for example) |
[Stream] | "Watch my stream" submissions |
[Offer] | Anything offered to the community (coaching, for example) |
[Request] | Requests for beta keys, practice partners, et cetera |
[VoD] | Recorded 1v1 to 4v4 or free-for-all (FFA) StarCraft matches and match highlights (a great Baneling bust, for example) |
[Interview] | Interviews related to StarCraft |
[Event] | Event announcements and reminders |
[News] | News submissions |
[Article] | Articles, blog posts, guides, etc... |
[Suggestion] | Suggestions for patches, betas, etc... |
[Discussion] | Discussion submissions |
[Question] | A question that isn't a discussion (has a single answer) |
[Other] | Any submission unmentioned above |
Note: User-editable link flair has been disabled.
Note: All of the above is subject to alteration.
