First build since 8 years need some help for a Game Dev / Workstation / Gaming build - 2-3k€ budget
Build Help
I use my PC work my work as a game developer (AAA) and in my spare time I develop smaller game concepts.
I built a PC for my much younger brother a year ago (his first gaming PC) and back then I already noticed how much things have changed since my last PC - I build it ~8 years ago and my Intel Xeon E3-1230 lasted pretty well until now and I only upgraded the GPU and the storage devices since then. The craziest thing to me are how tiny those M.2 SSDs are, but in general I feel like I might have missed something when i built this.
Important things to me are: mostly white (+ black) case, white parts inside are a plus, dont care about LEDs much, need a super fast future-proof CPU (Just look at how I used this machine for so many years, i want the next one to last as long too!), need fast and large SSDs for work and media, decent GPU, 2x32 GB of fast Dual-Rank ram
I picked the 7950x3d because it is excellent for Unreal Engine development and good for compilation and doesn't consume as much energy as other CPUs (lower bill + less heat in my apartment without AC, this is important to me!)
I picked the ASRock X670E Steel Legend mainboard for good price-value and because it has a good audio codec, I listen to music a lot while working.
PSU I already have (warranty case from my brother's PC). The GPU I might reuse from my current PC for now, because so far I never felt I need a better GPU. I do want to play Cyberpunk at some point though, but I dont need the very highest settings.
The cooler vs ram clearance for this case should be fine according to https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/uiktv5/got_a_new_cpu_cooler_deepcool_ak620/
What is your intended use for this build?
Unreal Engine development, C++ compilation, daily work (remote connecting to another PC), video games (not the latest AAA games usually, but rather indie/older gems), I also play music and watch movies through my PC (connected to my TV / stereo)
I use 2 1080p displays at 60Hz
If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for?
I mostly play older games / indie gems and a few newer games but I don't need the highest settings, I am fine with medium/high and it justs need to run well
What is your budget?
2000-3000€
In what country are you purchasing your parts?
Germany/Austria/Czechia
