I've never seen someone abbreviate and as "nd" before. Anyway, it sounds like your fine, just learn what string gauges fit the tunings you want to play in.

Thank you for translating, I picked up dream theater from the 7 string, but was thinking who the hell is “nd”

The best mod is a thorough setup and fresh strings. You want to know how the guitar sounds and feels at its best before you make big changes.

Play all your 6 string stuff on it to get used to the 7th string. A lot of songs that are played on a 7 don't actually use the 7th all that much, so it's important to learn how to work around it.

Chords are hard on a 7. Get used to using your LH thumb for muting.

Try Lacuna Coil for some fun and not too difficult 7 string riffs.

The best thing you can do is play it. Scales, exercises, every song you know, improvisation, etc. Don't obsess over perfection or learning the 'right' way, just put in the time and it'll come together.

I absolutely agree with that first paragraph. A proper setup and a string gauge that works for you and the instrument is an essential jumping off point.

Yep. I exclusively played my 7 string for about a month after I got it so I could get used to using and NOT using the low B.

i used to play in d standard for acoustic, what string gauge would you recommend?

Totally depends on how slinky or stiff you like your strings to feel. Likely the guitar will come with a standard .010 to .056 set. Go up a gauge if it's too floppy, go down a gauge if it's too tight. Trying different strings is just as important as any other mod, so have fun with it.
