Is the farmers market as good as advertised?

Hey!

Starting later in July, I plan on buying from a local Farmer's Market or two, and I just wanted to ask here before I do anymore digging.

Is the food more protected from pesticides and chemicals, is this really the best way to buy foods until I can grow my own? I don't mean to sound ignorant, I'm just wanting insight from those who may run a Market or buy from one consistently.
