[Build Ready] Checks for stupidity

Build Ready

###Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

Yes

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Primarily games and personal use.

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

High-end. Focus is on 1080P and prioritizing FPS for now but with some room to switch to a 4K monitor in the future. 4K still seems hard to do consistently with good frames, so I'm not as interested in it with this build.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

2-2.5K USD

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

U.S.

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Provide any additional details you wish below.

The last machine I built was almost 10 years ago now, and it's served me quite well. But by now it's way past time for me to upgrade my CPU and it was a good excuse to do a new build. I'm not expecting this build will last as long, but I am hoping for 5+ years out of it. I'm not as inclined to build for potential SLI in the future, otherwise I might get a bigger case. Just seems to make less sense these days with how unwieldy the cards are and how prices don't seem to go down much even years after release.

I was unsure on the DDR4 v DDR5 point, since last I looked at the comparison it was still DDR4 favorable. But it seems DDR5 is now entrenched with better sticks, and getting a DDR4 MOBO for the CPU I'm looking at didn't seem too feasible.

The MOBO comes with the CPU in a bundle, and I'm not too attached to it if anyone has suggestions for an alternative.

Since it's been so long since I built a machine I wanted to make sure I'm not forgetting something obvious with this build. I already checked the dimensions on the RAM/Fan/Case and should fit, but it is admittedly tight. Any other suggestions are of course welcome!

Seems good. If you are really focused on 1080p may be worth considering the 7800x3d. Also idk if that windows key is on there just to be there but don’t actually pay $100 for a windows key you can get them online for $8.

Thanks! Yes, it is just on there to be on there. Definitely not planning on paying full price for Windows.

Also, are you thinking the GPU is more likely to get bottlenecked by a 7700X rather than a 7800x3d at 1080? I hadn't seen any specifics about that but was wondering as much.

As resolution decreases, the workload is more burdensome on the processor and less so on the GPU. So if you plan to play at 1080p, a faster processor will benefit your frames.
