Sometimes I wish my husband had my job so he could understand
I’m 6 weeks pp from an emergency c-section. My husband had to go back to work after 2 weeks. I need to preface this by saying I love my husband and I love my baby. But taking care of her can be so overwhelming especially combined with healing mentally and physically from birth. I hate who I see in the mirror but I don’t have time to deal with that because my baby needs me. I’m overstimulated and stressed, but when I sit down to decompress the baby needs me. Y’know? I feel like I have to shove myself to the wayside because if my baby doesn’t need me, I have a house to keep up with and four pets to take care of. Even if I get time to myself it’s always interrupted by something and I’m dealing with everything alone. I get no breaks ever because even when my husband is home, if he isn’t having his own ‘him’ time, he’s helping with the baby and I’m still within range to hear it, see it or be called in for backup if nothing he’s doing is working.
I can imagine that him being at work and missing out on time with his daughter must be hard and suck in it’s own right. But a job he can get away from when he comes home is so much different than the job of mom.
It’s hard and frustrating to talk to him about this. Anytime I do express how easy it is for me to feel bogged down and overrun it’s clear he doesn’t understand where I’m coming from. I said once he has it easier than I do because he gets a break from baby when he’s at work. And I think I offended him because by the nature of working out of home he misses stuff and it’s hard to leave every morning. And I get that I do. But I wish he could spend a day in my shoes and HAVE to do everything I do. Feed, burp and put baby to sleep. Then do dishes. Then sweep/vacuum. Then throw laundry in the wash. Care for baby again. Tidy flat surfaces. Clean bathroom. More laundry. Care for baby. Repeating on and on and on all day. I wish he knew exactly what it was like and exactly why I struggle.
