Angelo Del Vecchio is a much better Quasimodo than Garou in Notre Dame de Paris

Comparison video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5Q2r5fA6JI

Angelo has much more diverse and unique acting style that makes me feel like he's not human. And his voice is just better at every level: on high notes it's more velvet, while during low notes it's much more shrill.

Everyone vastly prefers Garou for some reason. I don't have any other explanation than people just saw him live first, so they are biased (just like myself). But I do believe that Angelo is much better in each aspect of the performance.

Source: just watched Notre Dame de Paris in NYC with Angelo performing live, and then watched Garou's parts on Youtube.

Do enough people have an opinion on this to make it popular or unpopular?

I don't know Angelo Del Vecchio, but listening to the comparison it sounds like the gravelliness in his voice is something he adds in, whereas Garou has it naturally.

I found your post a month late while google searching for recordings/performances of Angelo Del Vecchio (too few and far between online). I am compelled to comment because I am one of the perhaps-handful of other people who feels as strongly about this as you do. I really must agree. The old recording with Garou has had a place in my heart for a long time, but this new interpretation is better.

I saw Angelo in the role in NYC this summer and was so moved that I went back twice. He has a wonderful, totally unique voice, and even moreso it was the acting: Garou played Quasimodo with kind of a mischievous twinkle, but Angelo's reading is wholehearted and open, with an earnest quality that really anchors him as the soul of the story.

I started following him on instagram and was kinda flabbergasted that he only has 10k-ish followers. I'm hoping he blows up and someday releases a solo album like Daniel Lavoie and Garou did before him.

(For anyone interested to hear him singing in his own voice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bvd6UTA_1_s )

Omg thank you for this comment (that I just noticed 3 months later). You really described how I feel about their performances, but in better words. It's very nice to hear that someone feels the same way. And I went back to see Angelo in NYC exactly twice as well :) Only after the 3rd time in 2 weeks I felt that okay I've had enough for now, until next year. And I'm still listening to the Notre Dame de Paris playlist on Spotify quite often. I actually created two ones: the full one except short bits (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/19GRblZfgsweBgWUwqIapQ?si=f04bea67efe64d9a) and the one with my favorite songs (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ZBa6IiTUevnJjo6frjZpk?si=bc5f3ccc436e4412).

Also a very nice video, thanks for the link! I noticed that he uses the same facial expressions while singing as when playing Quasimodo, so looks like it's his natural way, which also works really well in that role.
