Hellfire rounds on Infernus squad.

Question

I was toying with the idea of taking an infernus squad and throwing it at chaff with either a corvus or a rapid ingress (overwatch+shooting next turn)

With hellfire rounds, it looks like it will do pretty solid damange to pretty much anything.

How does everyone else feel about it?

Yeah, it's not bad, but very dependent on match-up. Other options are firing them out of Impulsor firing ports, or deepstriking with Beacon.

Main issues, lack of AP, so you've got to be target selective. Granted the whole point is just to force saves on your opponent, rolling 30 saves he's going to fail some. Kraken isn't a bad choice on them either, adding 50% range and some AP will work against some things, especially against a target that has been Oathed or Tomed. They're a little pricey as well. Other issue is they'll never get any benefit from Mission tactics, as they're all Crit Hit based (sad flamer noises).

I think my go to (when I take them) will be a captain (for free ammo strat) with Beacon, then deepstrike them in and melt something. Main problem is if I'm going to need a specialist unit, it's not for anti-infantry. Vehicles/Monsters are the issue usually, so I often don't have space for an Infernus squad.

I did pick up on that anti synergy. Another option is a storm speeder giving them +1 to wound, allowing them to rip up almost anything that’s Oath’d as well

Backfield Drop Pod or Angelis + CPT + Kraken = ashes. See if you can provoke an enemy to use his Overwatch before your reinforcements arrive, then just incinerate a unit holding one of his backfield objectives.
