Stuck, need advice

Discussion

So I’m fairly new, like two weeks of playing. I’m at Barioth (the sabretooth dragon in iceborne) and he’s way too mobile. I’m using great sword and I can’t kill this guy before he fucks me up. I’ve been struggling a shit ton with this game’s difficulty, my gear is all upgraded I feel like I’m doing something wrong

Barioth is a notorious wall. If you’re using MR gear it’s probably a case of not knowing the fight well enough. If you didn’t know you can break both of his arms to essentially make him fall over nearly every time he jumps or makes an attack.

At this point in the game if you have a fully upgraded weapon that’s usually more than enough damage though. I’d focus on getting Health Boost and possibly Divine Blessing into your build. Depending on your weapon using a fire weapon may be a good idea if you’re using one of the faster hitting weapons.

If you’re that new I’d give yourself some slack as well. These games can take a long time to get good at and the amount of knowledge to absorb is crazy. I’ve been playing since Freedom Unite and I still find out stuff I didn’t know all the time.

Break his forearms to lower his mobility. Get used to his hipcheck, his pounce is predictable with time to punish after

Put on temporal mantle or rock steady mantle.

Tenderise his arms.

Break his arms.

Use foresight Slash extensively.

He's definitely a tough monster to take down. You gotta do a lot more dodging than most other monsters. Especially with great swords limited mobility (I think, I always sucked at GS so take that with a grain of salt.) Maybe if you could share your build, I could give some tips on that

pick an arm, keep attacking it until it breaks. that way when barioth jumps around, it sort of slips and you have extra time to attack or regroup or whatever

Break his wings, makes him trip a little every time he moves around and remember that if you can't land tcs the wide slashes are an option even if they're not optimal they still do damage, use temporal mantle for easy wall slams and traps can give you some free tcs

Barioth always felt too fast to me, breaking his arms helps a lot though 90% of the time he'll just jump about 1/10 of Lunastra tail (about 4 miles) away and be up before you've walked over. But it helps.

But how? Traps. Wallbangs. Use those windows, chip at him as much as you can the rest of the time, but if you use traps and early bangs to smash his claws then wear him down until he's ready for another wallbang or 3 it helps.

If you can't bang him easily get the rocksteady mantle. You'll need to go back to high rank for that and the temporal mantle. Those help A LOT. If you're wondering you, you'll quickly learn what I mean about Lunastra's tails.

TRAPS. Use your traps!

Trap it with a shock trap. Target one arm with a True Charge Slash and break it. This will slow it down by making it stumble after charging. If you position correctly you can often get a free charged 1st hit after it whiffs a charge.

Then use more traps to buy your extra time to attack. Net trap. Craft a second shock trap.
