The one you like more. All weapons are viable and they can all hunt the monster.
Whichever you have more fun with. One of the great things about MH is that the weapons are really well balanced. Some might work better in a particular matchup, but nothing is really drastically stronger or weaker than others.
There's a pretty significant ranking in speedruns that show some weapons can defeat monsters faster than others under absolutely ideal circumstances, but 99% of players won't hit this level, so don't worry about it.
Hell, play with both of you want, nothing is stopping you.
