Workaround to take notes on the go

Discussion

I’ve been someone that likes to write things down immediately as I think of them, otherwise I forget or lose track of things. Unfortunately notes is not available on Apple Watch so I always have to pull out my phone or write things down on a pad of paper.

I realized a great workaround is to use a shortcut to capture text and then save it in the Notes section of a calendar event with a title like “Note to self”. It’s a breeze to dictate a little note to Siri and I get a built-in time stamp!

How exactly do you make a note on the AW? Could you share what to tell Siri?

You can use a shortcut, name it something like “write this down” or “note to self”, Have it ask for Input (as text) with a prompt of your choosing, and then add a calendar event with a title like “note to self”, from current date to current date. Expand this step in the shortcut to add the “Provided Input” to the calendar event’s Notes section, and turn off Show Compose sheet

For myself, I created a separate calendar in iCloud for this particular shortcut.

here’s an example

Don’t use an Apple Watch anymore but I’m the exact same haha I’m so forgetful and sometimes I forget what I needed to write down

Ask Siri to remember something and it will go into reminders.

For example “Hey Siri, remember check tyre pressure” will add a reminder into your default list that says ‘check tyre pressure’

I tried that and Siri told me that “I don’t see an app for that, you need to download one”. I then downloaded the Reminder App and Siri gave me the same answer.

Could you use Voice Memos - Built into Watch and Phone..

If you use office365, you get OneNote on the watch. It works very well for note taking on the go (typing or dictating).

I have had lots of problems with sync, not really a fan of OneNote for mobile

Ok. I haven‘t noticed any problems. But to be honest, I rarely use my watch for that kind if thing as I‘m rarely without my phone.

You can try the Tot app

I got Just Press Record app. It takes voice memos, syncs to iCloud to use on all devices. Can covert voice to text.

Curious, is there a reason to use this app over the default voice memo app?

I keep a list titled “remember”. Then I tell Siri to add to my remember list.
