The Kena'Sera'Mula System

Lore

My world, Damarian, should probably be codified somewhere, so I guess I'll put it here.

The Stars of the KSM System

Damarian is in a fairly insignificant trinary star system: While the 3 stars are impressive, the two largest stars are both K-type stars, specifically 0.6 and 0.4 solar masses, and the smaller one is a 0.3 solar mass M-type about 49 AU away from the other 2.

The twin K-type suns are called Kena (KAY-nah) and Sera (SAIR-rah) , in descending size order (Kena is 0.6 solar masses, Sera is 0.4), and orbit each other around a barycenter centered about 0.18 AU away from each other. This dual orbit means the two stars are seen, by the 3 sapient groups native to their planets, as two gods/goddesses in an eternal dance. For Damarian, this means the goddesses Kena and Sera, who, in their mythos, are in a romantic relationship (And they're lesbians). They're seen as somewhat opposites: Kena is a more serious goddess of her star, rulership, justice, tactics, and logistics, while Sera is a more happy-go-lucky goddess of her star, the arts, love, fertility, commerce, and music. However, they're still very much in love. Mula (myoo-LAH), the M-type star, has an associated deity as well: Mula, goddess of Mulan dusk (Will be explained in a different post), stealth, subterfuge, and loners.

Meet the Kids: The Planets

The KSM system has 5 planets, one of which Damarian orbits as its largest moon: Chern (SHAIRN), Kiroki (kee-ROW-kee), Kuma (koo-MAH)(Damarian's parent planet), and Cheyandi (shay-YAWN-dee) around Kena and Sera (In ascending distance from Kena'Sera), and Miel (myehl) around Mula. Mythologically,

Chern: The closest planet to Kena'Sera, at 0.55 AU from the barycenter, is roughly the size of Mars, and has a similar gravity and atmospheric thickness. Due to it being closer, however, it can soar to well above 100 degrees Celsius at day, but plunge to less than negative 100 Celsius, being able to keep a bit of heat in its atmosphere. However, despite these extremes, probes have confirmed microscopic life exists on the planet and is still alive, albeit mostly during the dusk and dawn hours. Chern has a moon named Tenii (ten-NEE), about Europa's size. Tenii has been found to lack life, likely due to its lack of any atmosphere.

Chern's associated deity is the god of travel, roads, and commerce, while Tenii is the goddess of messengers and speed. Tenii can sometimes be seen, especially if one has a Colarii's nighttime eyesight or a good telescope, in which case it can be seen every few months or anytime, respectively.

Kiroki: Kiroki, the second star from Kena'Sera, is mostly ocean, but still has about 25% of its surface covered by land, and is otherwise Earthlike, save for 75% Earth gravity. Probes from Damarian confirm the existence of widespread life on land, sea, and sky, although no sapient life had been discovered. Kiroki also has a single moon, called Ocea, which is roughly the size of the Earth moon..

Kiroki is the goddess of the sea, and Ocea is the goddess of sailing and navigation. Both are prayed to by those who live on the sea, such as sailors, navies, pirates, fishermen, and explorers. They're well known for being kind to anyone who respects their crew, so even the most ruthless and feared captains on the seas treat their crews well, for poor treatment results in Ocea or Kiroki sinking their ship.

Kuma: The largest planet in the system, Kuma is 16 times the mass of Jupiter, but due to its gravity, it's only a few hundred miles wider. It's so big, in fact, that it is classified as a brown dwarf. It has also been identified as having HAD minor amounts of fusion occur for about 2,000 years before it failed to continue, leaving it as a massive brown dwarf. Kuma has actually been identified has having zeppelin-like life flying through the endless clouds. Kuma also has massive rings, out to 250,000 km.

Kuma's deity is the goddess of the sky, fitting for a massive planet of cloud, wind, and storms. Kuma is also the mother of all of Kuma's moon's deities. The rings actually have a separate deity: Kebri, who is also the goddess of Chaos, Fire, Sexuality, Live, Gender, Trickery, Alcohol, Music, Dance, and Parties. Essentially, she's in the role of That Asshole in the mythology.

Kuma's Moons: Kuma has about 144 moons, but only about 16 are over 100 km in one dimension. Damarian is the largest of these, being twice the size of Earth. The next biggest is Earth-sized Korra, which is the only other moon of Kuma to have sapient life, the Tlaali, which are crab-like sophonts the size of German Shepherds. The Tlaali are at most Bronze Age level in technology, and worship the Colarii and other sophonts from Damarian as messengers of their gods. The next largest 4 are, in descending size order, Asami (75% Earth size with 75% G), Ze (60% and 59% G), Temta (54% and 45% G), and Miandi (39% and 25% G). All 4 have life on them, just no sophonts: Miandi is actually the most advanced life wise, with many terrestrial, aquatic, and flying life. Many tours from Damarian come to Miandi to see the life. Funnily enough, Miandi life has become so used to Damarians being harmless they'll land on tourists' heads, faces, and other things, feeling so sense of danger if no predators are nearby.

Ze is next, having advanced sea life and primitive terrestrial plantlife and animals, with trips there being more like scuba diving trips than safaris with birdwatching. Ze life is also fearless of Damarian tourists, swimming within inches of faces and generally showing no fear. In fact, many prey animals are beginning to evolve a sort of symbiosis with the tourists, which is extending to other large, harmless sea life: Schooling next to them for protection from predators, which don't attack the tourists or larger animals. This is actually becoming successful enough for the prey animals that even animals that didn't originally school before the tourists came are beginning to evolve schooling and following large animals.

Asami is essentially in the middle of its Cambrian Explosion period, and Temta has only primitive sea life, with the most advanced life being free-swimming cnidarian-like life (Like jellyfish). Asami and Temta are banned from tourism, in order for their primitive life to be able to not be wiped out by accident. Also, it's not like there's much to see.

The Kuman 8 (As they are often called) all have deities, as usual: Damarii (Damarian) is a goddess of fertility, motherhood, and children, and is always depicted as heavily pregnant. It's not that it's a caricature, but when she appears in front of mortals, she's always heavily pregnant (As in 9 months with twins). Korra is the goddess of young love and crushes, Miandi is the goddess of wind, Ze is the goddess of coral reefs, Asami is the goddess of beginnings and curiosity, and Temta is the goddess of infants (She shares this with Damarii), childbirth, and toddlers.

The next largest 10 are from 2,500 km to 1,250 km: Gitu (2,487 km), Briil (2,365 km), Korai (2,178 km), Sydon (2,001 km), Borok (1,989 km), Korob (1,963 km), Mirai (1,953 km), Ai (1,945 km), Rubii (1,776 km), and Nemona (1,346 km). None of these have anything more advanced than extremophile microbes. Their deities are the goddess of lightning, god of forges, goddess of war, god of paintings, god of decay, god of rebirth, goddess of storms, goddess of celebrities, goddess of food, and goddess of duels.

The remaining 128 moons have names, but are seen as minor deities, all focused on minor parts of life: For example, Makima is the goddess of parasites, Kobeni is the goddess of spring breezes (Seriina, Nesa, and Reze form the other 4 Breeze Goddesses (Summer, Fall, and Winter, respectively), Denjii is the goddess of solitary apex predators, Power is the god of pack hunters, Li'ii is the goddess of trees, Sonya is the goddess of insects, Raihan is the god of Greater True Dragons, Lans is the god of Lesser True Dragons, Bea is the goddess of fungi, D'Va is the goddess of small fast prey animals on land, Isabela is the goddess of flowers, Tiana is the goddess of amphibians, Link is the god of larger fast prey animals (Deer/horses), and so on (Most are deities of a minor natural force or one clade of creatures, with a few exceptions).

Cheyandi: Cheyandi is the only other gas giant in the system, other then Kuma, and is about 50% larger than Neptune. It has significant rings, about 100,000 km wide, but are not as prominent as Kuma's rings, but they're still noticeable with a good telescope (Or a Colarii's vision and a cheaper telescope) as a wide disc around the planet. Similar to Uranus, it orbits at such an extreme angle that the rings are actually visible not as a thin strip, but as an actually disc; The rings, at their thinnest, look like Saturn's rings at their widest, and at their own widest, are fully visible. Cheyandi's goddess is the goddess of winter, responsible for the snow and cold.

Cheyandi also has about 16 moons, with 12 of them from 100 km to about 800 km. The largest 4, Gloria, Hop, Marnii, and Biid are the goddesses (And gods) of the north wind, east wind, south wind, and west winds, respectively. The smaller 12 are the deities of specific types of precipitation or weather: Akii (Fog), Himeno (Snow), Pepa (Hurricanes), Tornadus (Tornadoes), Eara (Rain), Bora (Sleet), Nena (Freezing Rain), Misera (Heatwaves), Randall (Coldsnaps), Miser (Blizzards), Rend (Floods), and Monako (Droughts).

Miel: The only planet of Mula, Miel is an almost identical sibling to Earth, and even has one moon, Leim. Miel has a sapient species known as the Mielans, who look like humans, save for being so sexually uniform males lack external genitals, instead reproducing via a similar process to birds, but do sometimes extend it for pleasure. Mielans are about as advanced as Earth is, save for they have almost become totally independent of nonrenewable resources, with the last use for fossil fuels being for the few trains that need gas or coal to work, but even these are being decommissioned for more eco-friendly solar trains that produce steam if they are replacing a steam locomotive, mostly for the aesthetic. Mielans have contact with Damarians, but due to Damarians finding them. They don't interact much, but often help each other out and trade.

Miel's Damarian god is the god of rogues and assassins, while Leim is the god of bards and performers.

Next post will be about other gods not mentioned here (As in Kuma's 112 moons I never mentioned, the 7 Sins, and some others).
