41yo male, 500ng/dL, considering TRT
All my life, I’ve struggled with the symptoms I’ve recently learned are associated with low T. Lack of motivation, low sex drive, occasional ED, inability to grow a beard, low muscle mass considering the amount of exercise I do, hard-to-lose nipple & belly fat despite eating [mostly] well, brain fog, depression & ADHD (both diagnosed).
A recent blood test returned a level of 501ng/dL. This seems to be right in the middle of the normal range, but still below what people aim for when they target “ideal” levels. My doctor says I’m not a candidate for TRT. I’m not overweight, don’t smoke, rarely drink, and exercise/lift (recreationally, nothing crazy) 3-5x/wk.
I’ve been struggling for so long, I don’t remember what it’s like to not be lethargic, or depressed, or unmotivated. Most people would be surprised to know this about me as I hide it well; I have a successful career and I take an active role in my family… but I am just dead at the end of every day, completely depleted. No energy, sometimes not even for sex. So I recognise my bias when I say that things would be simpler if a needle could improve my quality of life.
Nevertheless, I’ll ask: is it possible my symptoms are testosterone-related, and is TRT worth a try?
